The National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS) is deeply concerned by the incident on 21 December at the St Joseph’s Church in Bukit Timah, where a suspicious parcel was found on church premises. We are grateful that thorough checks by the Singapore Police Force and specialist units have confirmed that the item was harmless and that no-one was injured as a result of this incident.

While we welcome the reassuring outcome, we unequivocally affirm that any act of mischief, intimidation, or intentional targeting of a place of worship — regardless of intent — is unacceptable in our society. Places of worship are sacred spaces where people of faith gather in peace, reflection and community; they should never be subjected to acts that cause fear or disruption.
