Ethos Seminar

Topic:
Constructing a Theological Space in the AI Era: The Paradox and Promise of a Smart Nation
Date:
28 March 2026, Saturday
Time: 10am-11.45am
Venue: Bible House, 7 Armenian Street, Singapore 179932

Synopsis:
In the global race for artificial intelligence dominance, Singapore’s vision of a “Smart Nation” presents a unique paradox: while digital acceleration drives efficiency and economic growth, it simultaneously creates a deep spiritual hunger arising from social fragmentation and isolation. As we stand at the intersection of rapid technological advancement and human flourishing, how should the Church respond?

Join Rev Dr. Clement Chia as he explores the construction of a “post-secular theological space” within the context of Singapore’s “Smart Nation 2.0” strategy. Drawing on the premise that Singapore is a society that is “secular but not irreligious nor anti-religious”, this seminar will argue that the Church is not marginalised by technology but is uniquely positioned to offer a prophetic voice through public ethics and spiritual discernment.

Speaker: Rev Dr. Clement Chia, Principal of Singapore Bible College
