On 20 March 2021, the Ethos Institute for Public Christianity conducted a seminar on ‘Religion and Politics in Singapore’. The purpose of this seminar is to reflect on the role that religion has played in multi-religious Singapore and the significance of the Maintenance of Religious Harmony Act (MRHA), twenty years after it was introduced.
The speakers at this seminar – Professor Mark Chan, Dr Chiang Ming Shun, and Professor Eugene Tan – discuss the different aspects of the relationship between religion and politics in Singapore. This includes the theological understanding of this relationship, its historical development in the context of Singapore, and the law that governs it, namely, the Maintenance of Religious Harmony Act (MRHA).
We are very pleased to have the Minister for Home Affairs and Law, Mr. K. Shanmugam, at the seminar. The Minister gave and address and took questions from participants.
